Since 2018, Fu Jen Catholic University has been recognized by the National Science and Technology Council as a key university for SPARK. Under the leadership of President Yi-Chen Lan, the program has recruited Professor Ching-Chuan Chiang, who has extensive coaching experience from NTU SPARK, as the technical development coach for medical devices. Additionally, Professor Chi-Feng Hung from the university’s medical school, known for his excellence in academia and research, serves as the coach for new drug development. The team also includes experienced project managers specializing in the fields of new drugs and medical devices.
The FJCU SPARK office collaborates with National Tsing Hua University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology to implement this program. Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital and Fu Jen Catholic College of Medicine provide clinical needs, while the national universities contribute engineering development expertise and resources. Through cross-institutional collaboration and resource integration, the program enhances the translational value of new drug and medical device R&D and fosters the development of biomedical commercialization talent.
To strengthen the support for new drug and medical device teams, the program invites professional clinical physicians from Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital and National Taiwan University Hospital to serve as our clinical mentors, providing expert medical advice. Additionally, regulatory agencies, biotech companies, and venture capital firms are invited to contribute their expertise as industry mentors. Moreover, based on the varying needs of the teams, experts in fields such as law and patents are invited to provide consultation and assistance. Industry experts offer one-on-one consultations, employing a family medicine-style diagnostic and companion-guided mentorship model. This value-added approach is a distinctive feature of SPARK at Fu Jen Catholic University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
